Access: Cascading combo and list boxes with LinkMasterFields/LinkChildFields

Access combo and list boxes now support LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields, enabling cascading dropdowns such as Country filtering City without VBA.

What changed

LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields can now link combo or list controls so a parent selection filters the child control without custom VBA code.

Why it matters

The no-code cascading-control behavior can replace VBA logic, but existing Access forms and filtering edge cases must remain compatible.

Known limitations

  • Availability, prerequisites and rollout scope remain authoritative in the linked Microsoft documentation.

Now check

  • Confirm the supported Access build and rollout channel
  • Test LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields in a copy of a production database
  • Validate filtering, null values and compatibility with existing VBA
