Copilot Business usage-based billing: rollout moved to January–March 2027
Microsoft moved default-on usage-based billing for new CSP purchases of Microsoft 365 Copilot Business to January–March 2027.
What changed
The previous December 1, 2026 start is superseded. The November 2 sandbox date is also withdrawn; Microsoft will announce a revised date, with at least 30 days of sandbox testing before general availability.
Why it matters
Partners must revise rollout plans and review consumption cost controls before affected purchases enable billing for existing Copilot Business seats in the same tenant.
Known limitations
- The rollout is planned for Microsoft FY27 Q3 (January–March 2027); no exact start date or revised sandbox date is announced.
- The default limit is 4,000 Copilot Credits per user per month, adjustable by administrators. This is a spending limit, not an included free allowance.
Now check
- Update readiness plans that still use December 1 or the former November 2 sandbox date.
- Inventory affected CSP standalone and bundled Copilot Business subscriptions, including existing seats in the tenant.
- Review usage-based billing settings, monthly spending limits and consumption monitoring in Partner Center or Microsoft Admin Center.
