October 2026 Windows Server Azure images and container baselines

Microsoft refreshed Server images and containers on 13 October. Marketplace image builds must not be confused with installed OS cumulative-update builds.

What changed

Server 2025 Azure images are 26100.33648.261011-1452 with KB5126646; Server 2022 images are 20348.5756.261011-1528 with KB5126655. Refreshed Server 2022 offers exclude out-of-support .NET packages.

Why it matters

New deployments inherit the selected image's patch and runtime baseline; image publication is not proof that existing devices or reference WIMs are updated.

Known limitations

  • Azure Marketplace images are not downloadable enterprise ISO or reference-WIM media.

Now check

  • Select the refreshed Server 2022 offer for new VM and custom-image builds
  • Patch deployed VMs to the direct KB's OS build; Marketplace version numbers can differ
  • Pull October MCR base-image tags and rebuild containers rather than assuming a patched host updates existing images
