Quick Machine Recovery reaches Windows Server 2025
Microsoft announced Quick Machine Recovery support for Windows Server 2025 with the October 2026 security update. Cloud remediation is disabled by default.

What changed
Windows Server 2025 can use WinRE to search Windows Update for applicable remediations after widespread boot failures. Microsoft announced server support on 19 October 2026.
Technical details
- Administrators can configure cloud remediation using Group Policy.
- With a matching remediation available, recovery can download and apply it, then restart.
- Cloud remediation and automatic remediation are separate settings.
Why it matters
Recovery planning should include connectivity and policy configuration before an incident. This capability complements existing recovery procedures and backups.
Known limitations
- Cloud remediation is disabled by default on Windows Server 2025.
- Recovery is best effort: a suitable remediation might not exist.
- Documented network support covers wired connections and WPA/WPA2 password-based Wi-Fi.
