KB5121003: RGB lighting drivers can make games unresponsive

Microsoft added a known issue for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 systems that use certain RGB-lighting components or low-level drivers such as inpoutx64.

What changed

After KB5121003, affected games can become unresponsive, close without notice, raise EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION or restart the device. Microsoft names ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and THE FINALS among reported examples.

Why it matters

Endpoint teams need to distinguish this investigated interaction with RGB-related drivers from a general Windows or game failure before broad deployment to affected hardware.

Known limitations

  • Microsoft is investigating the interaction and has not published a mitigation yet.

Now check

  • Inventory RGB-control software and drivers with names similar to inpoutx64 in the Windows 11 pilot ring
  • Test affected applications on builds 26100.9168 and 26200.9168 before broad deployment
  • Collect a Feedback Hub report with Windows key + F and monitor the KB for updated guidance
