Remote PC connections in Windows App on Windows is now generally available

Today, we’re excited to share that remote PC connections in Windows App on Windows is now generally available!

What changed

Remote PC connections in Windows App on Windows are now generally available, allowing users to add physical or virtual Windows PCs by name or IP address alongside Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft Dev Box resources.

Why it matters

The Windows App can now consolidate direct Remote Desktop connections and cloud resources without requiring a work or school account for the Remote PC scenario, which changes client-standardization and support guidance.

Known limitations

  • Availability, prerequisites and rollout scope remain authoritative in the linked Microsoft documentation.

Now check

  • Enable Remote Desktop only on approved target PCs and confirm network, firewall and authentication prerequisites
  • Install or update Windows App from Microsoft Store and pilot connections by PC name and IP address
  • Validate display settings, local-resource redirection, saved connections, Favorites and help-desk guidance before broader adoption
