Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 reaches end of updates in October

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 reaches end of updates on 13 October 2026. Microsoft recommends Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024, with ESU available when migration needs more time.

What changed

LTSB 2016 leaves regular servicing in October, so long-lived devices need either a supported LTSC migration or a deliberate ESU bridge.

Technical details

  • Target Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024
  • ESU path available for additional transition time

Why it matters

LTSB systems often run fixed-function or business-critical workloads where application, hardware and servicing constraints require more lead time than a normal feature update.

Known limitations

  • ESU is a temporary bridge, not a replacement for migration
  • Hardware and application support must be validated separately

Now check

  • Inventory every LTSB 2016 device and workload owner
  • Choose LTSC migration or ESU per device class
  • Test drivers, applications and recovery before October
