Remove legacy Apple MDM software update workloads from Intune

Intune will remove legacy Apple MDM software update workloads after Apple retires the underlying MDM update commands and payloads.

What changed

This change will help keep the Intune admin experience, Graph surface, and documentation aligned to what Apple still supports, instead of leaving behind settings that no longer have a valid backend. Organizations that still depend on the older workflows will need to finish moving remaining Apple software update scenarios to declarative device management (DDM).

Why it matters

Apple is retiring the underlying legacy MDM update commands, so remaining Intune update profiles, reports and automations must move to declarative device management before those workloads disappear.

Known limitations

  • Availability, prerequisites and rollout scope remain authoritative in the linked Microsoft documentation.

Now check

  • Inventory Apple software-update policies, reports, Graph calls and runbooks that still use legacy MDM commands
  • Pilot the equivalent DDM software-update workflow on supported Apple devices
  • Validate scheduling, deferrals, status reporting and rollback ownership before removing legacy dependencies
